Abstract
A ceramic bonded abrasive product has at least a predetermined portion of the pores impregnated with a thermosetting, potentially cross-linkable copolymer of a liquid linear epoxy prepolymer, having at least 3 epoxy and/or a crosslinking hardening compound of the group consisting of hydroxyl cross-linking sites per molecule, and an organic polyamine and an organic anhydride, cured in situ to form a cross-linked epoxy copolymer and 95-100% of the pore volume of the impregnated portion being filled with the epoxy copolymer. The predetermined portion may be that portion surrounding and adjacent to the wheel hole. The epoxy prepolymer may be a prepolymer of epichlorohydrine and a bisphenol. Grinding aids may be incorporated into the resin phase either chemically as part of the resin bond or physically as a filler. When an aliphatic polyamine curing agent is used the aliphatic group may contain a sulphur atom to provide the group -C-S-C. Polysulphide compounds or elemental sulphur or halogen compounds, such as cryolite can also be incorporated into the prepolymer-cross-linking compound mixed prior to impregnation. Iron sulphide, potassium fluoroborade, vinylidene chloride and other conventional fillers can be applied.
