Abstract

A vehicle seat 1 is supported on a mount 2 supported by a parallelogram linkage 3 and by a compression spring shock absorber unit 4 which is pivotally connected at its ends, and the lower end of the unit 4 can be moved along a path which is perpendicular to the unit to change the force exerted by the unit on the seat. The lower end of the unit 4 has a bolt 20 which is displaced in guide slots 21 in inner cheeks 22 on a base plate 6 by a screw pack 5 comprising a rod 23, Fig. 4, with a male thread 231 screwed into a sleeve 24 with a female thread 241 and a male thread 2411 of opposite hand which is screwed into a nut 26 carried on trunnions 28 mounted on the cheeks 22. The sleeve is rotated by a knob 27 and the rate of adjustment per turn is the sum of the leads of the two equal threads 231, 24". An arm 33 connected to the bolt 20 of the unit 4 passes through a slot in an outer cheek 10 on the base plate 6 and co-operates with a scale 35. The seat 1 is pivoted to a pin 41 having rods 43 which slide in the mount 2 and a pin 45 on the seat is selectively engaged with a plurality of holes 46 in the mount 2.
