Abstract
A coating and impregnating composition comprises the reaction product of (1) the reaction product of from 0À8 to 1À2 moles neopentyl glycol per mole of fumaric acid of which up to 75 mole per cent of the fumaric acid may be replaced by isophthalic acid and (2) one-half to one-sixth mole per mole of acid of dicyclopentadiene, an alkyl substituted dicyclopentadiene or a mixture thereof, there being added to the reaction product of (1) and (2) vinyl toluene in an amount of from one third to two thirds of the weight of the reaction product of (1) and (2). In the examples are used: neopentyl glycol, isophthalic acid, fumaric acid, dicyclopentadiene, quinone, vinyl toluene, tertiary butyl perbenzoate, fumed silica, a polyoxyethylene derivative of fatty esters of hexitol anhydride e.g. polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolsurate derivative, cresylic acid, various epoxy resins and catalysts for them e.g. boron trifluoride monoethylamine complex and dodecenyl succinic anhydride.
