Abstract

In a rotary distributer type fuel injection pump a pair of shuttle chambers 20, 21 are provided in the body and have parts 23, 24 which co-operate with supply grooves 33 and feed grooves 35 alternately disposed on the periphery of the distributer 12. Supply grooves 33 communicate through a governor controlled throttle 17 with the output of the feed pump 2 and the feed grooves 35 are connected through a valve 36 with the distributer passage 13. The shuttles 25, 26 engage the ends of a pivoted beam 27 so that movement of one shuttle under feed pump pressure moves the other to supply a metered quantity of fuel to the passage 13 and cylinder 7, the shuttles being alternately acting as their cylinders communicate with the alternating grooves 33, 35. The axial position of the pivot of the beam 27 is adjustable and hence the maximum stroke of the shuttles and feed delivery, by a cam surface on a member 30 which, relative to the shuttles, is axially adjustably mounted in and laterally movable with a piston 31. The piston 31 is loaded by a spring and at the opposite end is connected to the output of the feed pump which output is arranged to be speed sensitive.
