Abstract

A box spring assembly has main springs 14 16 and intermediate support springs 20 (Fig. 1) each comprising a straight load supporting portion 24 or 54 and integral perpendicular resilient end portions (26, Fig. 5) or 62 for mounting on a rectangular frame (12) or rails 22 thereof. Each end portion of a spring 14 or 16 comprises a perpendicular leg (32, Figs. 5, 6) connected between parallel torsion bars (28, 30), and inclined sections (34, 38, 42, 46) and torsion bars (36, 40, 44, 48) and an L-leg (52) integral with bar (30). Bar (28) is connected to a rectangular border wire (18) by a clip (53), and bar (48) and leg (52) are stapled at (50) to frame (12). Each end portion of a spring 20 comprises a perpendicular leg 66 connected between parallel torsion bars 60, 64, and inclined sections 68, 72, 76 and torsion bars 70, 74, 78 and an L-leg 80 integral with bar 78. Bar 78 and leg 80 are stapled at 82 to rails 22, bar 60 is connected to a spring 16 by a clip 67, and a part 56 of spring 20 is connected to a spring 14 by a clip 58. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,086,032.
