Abstract
In the coating of a succession of sheets 2 mounted on a support 1 and fed in close proximity to a coating die 4, the supply of coating material to die 4 is so regulated that as each sheet approaches the die the latter already has an accumulation 3 of material at its orifice and that thereafter the material is uniformly supplied to the die up to a point in the passage of the sheet when the supply is interrupted to ensure that the sheet is uniformly coated and that no material is applied to the support 1. Regulation of the supply is effected by providing two independently regulatable pumps, one pump being arranged to deliver material intermittently to provide the accumulation at the die on approach of a support, and the second pump being arranged to deliver material intermittently to provide the uniform supply during passage of the sheet.
