Abstract
Process for simultaneously producing hydrogen and a technically pure mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen characterized in that carbon dioxide is added to an initial gaseous or vaporous hydrocarbon material and this mixture, together with superheated steam, is reformed catalytically at room temperature and high pressure, the amount of carbon dioxide added being greater than in the reaction mixture obtained in the reforming reaction, the molecular ratio between hydrogen and carbon monoxide is substantially equal to the ratio to be produced in these gases in the total of the final products of the reaction mixture obtained in the reforming reaction and consisting of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane, separating the water and removing the carbon dioxide and this gas mixture thus purified, part of the hydrogen is recovered as a technically pure product, and the second stream is a product consisting of a technically pure mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, with the desired ratio between carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
