Abstract

A diving bell for use in welding pipe sections at deep underwater locations comprises side slots 16 for accommodating the pipe sections so that the joint to be welded can be enclosed in the bell, slot closure skirts 18, a floor provided by hinged gratings 20 and various controls such as a valve for controlling the supply of gases to the bell.
