Abstract
Charge collected by an ionization chamber 1, 2 is integrated in a capacitor 5, and when the voltage across this capacitor reaches a pre-set valve, threshold circuit 7 supplies a pulse to counter 10 and causes a switching circuit 3 to reverse the polarity of the chamber 1, 2 or that the sign of the charge collected is reversed, the voltage across capacitor 5 then changing in the opposite direction until threshold circuit 7 is again switched and the cycle is repeated. A compensating capacitor 4 eliminates the effects of parasitic charges when switch-over occurs. Because capacitor 5 is not discharged after each charge increment has been accumulated, high speed, solid state switching is possible (detailed circuits are given) and dielectric hysteresis effects are avoided. The two threshold levels of circuit 7 also provide temperature compensation.
