Abstract

A cable winch includes two coaxial cylindrical drum portions 1-2 of different diameters and joined by a step 7 which is substantially perpendicular to the drum axis, the cable 3 being attached to the drum in the region of the step such that the intial turns thereof wind on to the smaller drum part 2. The end of the cable is secured in a partial circumferential groove 4 in the larger drum part 1 by screwed plates 5 which lie flush with the surface of part 1.
