Abstract

A method for the detection of neoplastic cellular tissue in or from a non-human animal comprises contacting cellular material with a glycoprotein which leads to the specific binding of the glycoprotein to neoplastic cells, said glycoprotein having been previously labelled so as to enable the detection of the glycoprotein bound to the neoplastic cells. The glycoprotein may be extracted from wheat germ or wheat germ lipase and labelled with radioactive material, fluorescent material, radio-opaque material, or visible dye or dyeforming substance. The substance may be administered by the topical, parenteral, oral, rectal or vaginal route it may. be formulated with sterile buffered isotonic solutions, aqueous suspensions, syrups, or as tablets or capsules or the testing may be performed in vitro.
