Abstract

An apparatus for forming cop-type windings comprises a pair of parallel winding spool supports, a pair of yarn guides mounted on a common shaft perpendicular to and passing between said supports for oscillation about the axis of the shaft, means for oscillating the yarn guides, and means for moving the shaft parallel to said supports. In Fig. 3 yarn guides 13, 14 are rocked by a shaft 6 to traverse yarn onto vertical cops positioned on each side of the shaft 6, there being one cop for each yarn guide. The shaft 6 is at the same time, moved downwardly. A cam 31 causes mechanism 37 to rook about a shaft 30. This rocking motion is transferred to the shaft 6 by a crank arm 7 coupled by a screwthreaded connecting rod 10 to the mechanism 37. A drive E rotates screwthreads 26, 28 to cause (a) the slide blocks 15, 16 carrying the shaft 6 to descend and (b) the effective length of the screwthreaded connecting rod 10 to shorten at the same rate as the sliding blocks 15, 16 are lowered.
