Abstract

A ballistic assembly comprises a projectile and a launcher, the projectile including a metal tube 2 containing an explosive charge 4 and an electric ignition capsule 9 mounted in a recess of a metal piston 5 force fitted in the tube, and the launcher including a metal guide rod 13 which bears against the piston, the capsule 9 being in electrical connection with a contact 7 in the piston, and the guide rod providing an electrical connection with the contact, whereby current can be supplied from an external source 25 to the ignition capsule. Upon igniting the charge 4, the piston is held stationary by the rod 13 and the projectile moves relative to the piston under the influence of the expanding gases derived from the charge. The head 13a of the rod 13 can be screwed into a support or into the muzzle of a weapon.
