Abstract
A photographic light-sensitive heat-developable composition containing photo-sensitive silver halide, an organic silver salt e.g. silver behenate or silver stearate and a reducing agent e.g. hydroquinone or an o-alkyl-substituted phenol, also contains a source of mercuric ion, e.g. mercuric acetate in an amount sufficient to provide a lighter image background and up to 0À07 moles mercuric ion per mole of silver. The silver halide may be formed in situ by reacting the organic silver salt with a small amount of a halide e.g. ammonium bromide CaBr 2 and BaBr 2 , which may also supply the mercuric ion e.g. mercuric bromide. Other silver and mercuric salts and reducing agents are listed. Other components in the composition are phthalazinone, phthalic acid, sensitizing dyes, ZnO, SiO 2 , CaCO 3 and as binders polyvinyl butyral, acetate, pyrrolidone and methacrylate and cellulose acetate.
