Abstract

A gas fired instantaneous water heater having a heat exchanger 61 at the upper end of a heating shaft 6, has a pair of exhaust gas hoods 71 arranged as exchangeable units, one of the hoods 71 carrying an exhaust gas blower 10 and the other a back draught restricting safety device (9), Fig. 2 (not shown). A support 12 serves to mount the selected hood on the rear wall of the heater casing 2. The blower 10 is integral with the hood 71 and also with its motor 101 which rotates about a vertical axis and has a vertical suction branch 11 and a horizontal discharge branch 1011 connected to an exhaust pipe 14. The suction branch 11 has a flange 111 bolted in adjustable angular positions to a fixed mating flange 121, Fig. 5, whereby the discharge branch 1011 is angularly adjustable and may be connected alternatively to exhaust ducts 141, 1411. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the casing has an upper end face into which merges a discharge opening of the hood (711) and the/blower 10 is angularly adjustable to vary the direction of the exhaust branch 1011. The blower 10 and motor 101 are covered by a hood shaped casing (16). In a further modification, Fig. 9, the blower 17 has a tangential discharge branch 1711 with its axis perpendicularly above the centre of the flange 111, remaining radial to the flange in all angular positions of the gas blower 17, and the suction branch 18 is eccentrically mounted relative to the flange 111 by an inclined pipe connecting piece 19. In yet another modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the exhaust pipe (14) has an expanded section (20) into which the discharge branch (1011) extends for draught control.
