Oxidation catalysts comprise silver on an inert support comprising particles having a minimum apparent porosity of 30% and wherein at least 90% of the pores have a maximum pore diameter range of 30Á, the average pore diameter being in the range 4-10Á. Preferably the particles are SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 but may contain infer alia BaO, Fe 2 O 3 , TiO 2 , CaO, MgO, Na 2 O, K 2 O, ZrO 2 , HfO 2 or MuO.
