Abstract
Substrates to be protected, e.g. staircases, are coated with a peelable composition comprising masticated rubber dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent, finely divided mineral filler and a microcrystalline petroleum wax. The filler may be asbestos, heavy spar, kaolin and/or chalk. The wax may be partially oxidised. The composition may also contain castor oil, aluminium stearate, antioxidant, glycerol, isopropanol and vulcanising agents. The composition may be overcoated by a quickdrying self-vulcanising rubber composition.
