A process for the manufacture of a porous article comprising an open, foam, flexible and permeable open cell structure of a polymer derived from an isocyanate, the process of which consists of: (1) reacting a polyisocyanate and a polyhydroxy compound in the presence of a foaming agent to form a foam and (2) compressing said foam before the completion of the polymerization reaction and afterwards to reach the green point of the foam.
