Abstract

Improvements in the construction of disk brake assemblies, of the sliding fork type, characterized in that they consist of a fork having first and second legs located on opposite sides of a corresponding brake disc having brake surfaces facing in opposite directions, a first brake shoe associated with said first fork leg and juxtaposed with a first of said disc brake surfaces being provided, a second brake shoe associated with said second leg of the fork and juxtaposed with a second surface of said surfaces disc brake, a torsion reaction element being mounted in fixed relation against the rotation of the brake disc; there being provided means capable of supporting said fork and imparting a sliding movement relative to said torsion reaction element in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the disk, driving means carried by said first leg of the fork in a capable manner of pushing said first shoe in frictional contact with the first brake surface of the disc and allowing said fork to slide relative to the disc so that said second brake shoe fits with the second brake surface of the disc, and spring means interposed between said fork and said torsion reaction element in a shape capable of elastically resisting said sliding movement and of returning said fork to an inactive position when said driving means is released, the inactive position being dependent on the degree of wear of said shoes of the brake, said spring means being constructed and they are subjected to a substantially linear elastic flexion upon said sliding movement of said fork until a certain amount of bending has occurred due to a predetermined degree of wear of said brake shoes, said spring means adopting a permanent stability after the aforesaid predetermined amount of bending for the adjustment in the inactive or resting position of said fork having occurred and being designed to undergo a substantially linear elastic flexion after adopting said permanent stability after the next successive sliding movement of said fork.
