Abstract

An apparatus for filling containers c with particulate material has an endless conveyer 22 operated by a motor 39 and conveying the containers continuously to a vibratory feeder which directs the material to the containers a packer 52 which compacts the containers contents another vibratory feeder 54 which fills the container, and a shaker section 58 where the containers are slightly tilted Fig. 4 (not shown) and shaken the spillage at feeders 48 and 54 being conveyed back by conveyers 86 and 94 to a cylindrical, rotary drum conveyer 124 Figs. 1 and 3 having pockets 126 which convey the spillage through a funnel 123 to the empty containers at a station upstream of the filling station. The spillage is continuously weighed on the conveyer 94 by a mechanism 92 and the feaders 48 and 54 adusted accordingly by a feed control 104. Another embodiment, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) has a rotary cylindrical shell (144) divided by a divider (166) into a main - and a spillage - filling compartment (150), (151). Material supplied to the main filling compartment (152) is transferred to the containers by projections (152) on the shell, 1 and the spillage is transferred to the compartment (151) by a vibrating tray (177).
