Abstract

A bulb 19 for use in a motor vehicle headlamp is provided with a cap formed, preferably by moulding plastics material, as a unitary member comprising two portions 6a, 7a the first of which has a pair of inwardly directed beads 3a adapted to engage with grooves 4a in the neck 1a of the bulb and the second of which carries a small parabolic reflector 17 or other accessory. The portions are initially connected by a thin connecting zone (8a) joining adjacent points 8b, 8c, so that after securing the portion 6a to the bulb the connecting zone can be torn by applying axial pressure to the portion 7a thereby leaving the reflector free to slide along the portion 6a until the required position of focus is reached. The portions are then secured together by ultrasonic or induction welding.
