Abstract

In a casting ladle 2 incorporating a bottom pour nozzle 3 supported by a holding ring 7 and disc 8 firmly connected to the ladle casing 6, the opening and closing of the ladle discharge opening is controlled by movement of a slide plate 10 kept in tight sealing engagement with the disc 8. The slide-plate is carried by a frame 12 pivotally mounted at 131 for rotation about a horizontal axis 15 in bushes of a two-arm flexible lever 40. A ball and socket arrangement 22, 23 mounts the lever 40 on to a bracket 20 which is secured to the ladle casing 6. The ball pin 22 can be screwed in to pretension the lever 40 to ensure that the slide plate is urged upwardly against the disc 8. Alternately (Fig. 4, not shown) the bracket may be resiliently mounted on the ladle. The lever is rotated between its open and closed positions either by means of an hydraulic piston 28 or by manual displacement (Fig. 5). In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), the two-arm lever is replaced by a onearm flexible lever (41).
