Improved position indicator apparatus, characterized by comprising means for generating magnetic flux secured with an alternately mobile element, and movable therewith, a plurality of switches, magnetically operated, arranged at discrete positions along the path of movement of said alternative element and adapted to be individually actuated by said magnetic flux, and circuit means connected to said plurality of switches to provide an indication of the position of the mobile element alternately; said circuit means comprising a relay circuit and an indicator circuit; said relay circuit including a power source, a plurality of relays each operating a plurality of contacts and each of said relays having a field coil connected to said power source, in series with the corresponding commutator mentioned, each of said field coils also connected to said power source in a second circuit in series, including a set of contacts, normally open, driven by said relay, and a set of normally closed contacts, operated by any relay, which is driven by a magnetic switch corresponding to the positions of the immediately adjacent alternative element along said path, whereby each relay remains driven, and the position, indicated by said indicator circuit, remains unchanged after the magnetic switch, connected in series with said relay, it is deactivated and until the switch in the immediately adjacent position e be activated.
