Abstract
Refuse is introduced into an incinerator 10 through an opening 12 from a hopper 26 by the use of an arcuate member 36 pivoted at 38 and a door 14 pivoted at 16. In operation with door 14 closed to prevent escape of fumes and the member 36 swung into the position of Fig. 2, the refuse is introduced into the hopper. Member 36 moves anti-clockwise to compact and move forwards the refuse. As it moves, door 14 is swung open and member 36 completes its movement forward to convey the refuse into the incinerator and finally door 14 swings anticlockwise to push the rest of the refuse into the incinerator. The door 14 and member 36 are driven by separate motors provided with control apparatus which after manual starting is arranged to operate the motors through a complete loading cycle of the member and door.
