Abstract
Tubes are formed upon a mandrel covered with an elastically compressible layer by applying a solvent resistant inner layer in the form of a foil of polyamide, halogen-substituted hydrocarbon or other plastics material, followed by an additional layer or layers including one of natural or synthetic rubber, and then the unvulcanized tube blank is removed for further processing, damage to the blank being prevented by the elastically compressible layer, which is retained on the mandrel. In a preferred embodiment the elastically compressible layer comprises a braided stocking made from expandible circular fabric, tied down by cords at both ends of the mandrel. The tube blank comprises a seamless polyamide foil tube, produced by injection moulding or extrusion, an intermediate rubber layer, and an outer reinforcing fabric layer. The unvulcanized tube is slid off the covered mandrel and cut into sections which are placed over curved mandrels and then vulcanized to form pipe bends and elbows.
