Abstract

Procedure to produce antibiotic bleomycin by aerobically inoculating and cultivating, in a medium containing a nutrient source, a bleomycin-producing strain belonging to the actinomycetes, where the culture is carried out in the presence of an amino compound having at least one group (see formula) and at least one basic group chosen from the amino, imino, guanidino, amidino and sulfonium groups, and cyclic nitrogen-containing compounds, or in the presence of a convertible compound, in the culture liquid, into such an amino compound as above, thereby selectively producing a known or new bleomycin component, corresponding to said amino compound or to an amino compound derived from the aforementioned compound, and then known or new bleomycin is recovered from the culture medium by known means.
