Abstract
Method of manufacturing hot-rolled steel articles, of the type in which the molten steel is poured into an ingot mold, into which molten steel contained in the mold is introduced, through the upper part of the mold, tellurium and/or selenium in sufficient proportion to improve the machining capacity of the rolled steel, the ingot being then hot-rolled, forming an elongated article of reduced cross section, such as a billet or bar, characterized in that the addition of tellurium and/or or selenium is delayed until at least most of the mold is already filled with molten steel that does not contain tellurium or selenium, a solid steel crust has already formed, which does not contain said elements, at least on the sides vertical molds, allowing the molten interior of the tellurium and/or selenium containing ingot to fully solidify before the ingot is hot rolled to produce an also a hot-rolled steel article containing tellurium and/or selenium dispersed within it in a proportion sufficient to improve its machinability, and having a surface crust devoid of appreciable proportions of tellurium and selenium.
