Abstract

A carding machine feeding arrangement comprises a first taker-in 7, a condenser roller 8 arranged to rotate at a lower peripheral speed than the first taker-in 7, and a second taker-in 9 which receives fibres from the condenser. As shown, a transfer roller 10 is provided between the condenser and the second taker-in 9. The feed system can also comprise a comb bar 14 for breaking down tufts, an edge 15 for removing trash, a casing 16 formed of bars to retain the fibres on the first taker-in 7, high pressure casings 22, 23, 27, 28 and a further fibre-retaining casing 19, in alternative embodiments a second condenser (29), dotting or burr crushing rollers (30, 32) and feed device (33) for the second taker-in 9 are provided (Fig. 2) doffing rollers (30, 32) and burr-crushing rollers (35, 36) are prvoided (Fig. 3) a third condenser roller (37) is provided (Fig. 4) contra-rotating feed rollers for the takers-in are provided (Fig. 5) and a transfer roller which may have a carding surface 47 associated therewith is provided between the first taker-in and the condenser 8 (Fig. 6).
