Abstract
A method of electrolytically depositing a protective shiny chrome coating characterized in that it comprises maintaining a chromium plating bath containing chromic acid and sulfate; maintain an anode in said bath; passing through said bath a continuous moving strip of thin gauge metal; passing said moving metal strip into contact with a cathode contact roller having a contact surface at least a portion of which contains metal having a carbon content of at least about 0.7% by weight whereby said metal strip is held as a cathode; passing an electric current through said anode, said bath and said cathode to thereby electrolytically deposit a shiny protective coating on said thin gauge metal strip.
