Abstract
An improved process for the production of one or more oxirane compounds, in which one or more olefinic compounds are reacted with one or more hydroperoxides at a temperature in the range of from 0ºC to 200ºC in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composition that is essentially insoluble in the reaction mixture, thereby providing a heterogeneous system, said catalyst composition comprising boron in chemical combination with an inorganic silicon solid.
