Abstract

Process for the preparation of fibers containing a uniform distribution of insoluble solid additives therein, characterized in that it comprises: (a) preparing a polymer solution of a solvent for the polymer, said polymer including from about 5 to 30% by weight, based on the total weight of said solution; (b) preparing a uniform dispersion of a solid additive in an inert organic liquid that is insoluble in said polymer solution, said solid additive being present in an amount of up to about 70% by weight, based on the total weight of said dispersion; (c) mixing said additive dispersion with said polymer solution, with high shear agitation, the amount of polymer in said mixture being at least 30% by weight, based on the total weight of polymer and solid additive in the same; and (d) wet spinning said mixture immediately to form fibers.
