Abstract

A process for the production of human or animal tissue products for use in surgery comprises introducing a tissue part into a concentrated sodium chloride solution for preservation and removal of enzymes, washing in water or treating with a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution, followed by slow deep-freezing and subsequently lyophilizing and sterilizing. The tissue part is preferably nerve tissue. The sterilization may be carried out under vacuum with ethylene oxide or alternatively the dry lyophilized preparation may be placed in a bag of polyethylene-aluminium laminate, followed by sealing, and irradiating with gamma rays.
