Abstract
Procedure for producing elemental sulfur and iron sulfate, characterized in that it comprises reacting an aqueous suspension of finely divided pyrrhotitic sulfides with sulfur dioxide, according to the general reaction equation: FeS + (2 + x) SO2 + 2/3xH2O ← FeSO4 + (2 +º/3x) SO + 2/3xH2SO4 where x is any number between 0 and 3, and said reaction is carried out at a temperature within the range of approximately 65.5ºC to 121.1ºC and below an overpressure of sulfur dioxide of at least 1.05 kg./cm2 relative, with elemental sulfur and iron sulfate being recovered from the reaction products.
