A process for preparing an article of a foam plastic material comprising heating a thermoplastic polymer composition comprising azodicarbonamide and a polymeric material selected from polyolefins and copolymers of olefins, polystyrenes and copolymers of styrene, and rigid poly (vinyl chloride), in the presence of at least one finely divided material having a surface area of 200 to 350 m2/g, at a temperature that is below the decomposition temperature of the polymer material and above the decomposition temperature of azodicarbonamide, to make a part of the azodicarbonamide decomposes, and then cool the honeycomb composition.
