Abstract
Process for obtaining flexible hydrophilic polyurethane foams, by reacting a polyisocyanate with at least one hydroxy compound in the presence of a catalyst and a swelling agent, as well as usual additives in the compositions for polyurethane foams, characterized Said process due to the fact that, as a hydroxy compound, a polyether-polyol is used, which contains from 50 to 70% of ethylene oxide groups, expressed by weight in relation to the polyether-polyol and which has the following characteristics: a) the equivalent average molecular weight is between 800 and 2000 for each hydroxyl group; b) the number x of primary hydroxyl groups, relative to the total number of hydroxyl groups, is between 35 and 55%; c) the ratio y of the content of ethylene oxide to the content of primary hydroxyl groups is between 1.1 and 1.7, with the additional condition that for the values of x between approximately 45 and 55%, the ratio y it is less than approximately 1.3, while the values of the ratio y greater than 1.3 imply corresponding values of x comprised between approximately 35 and 45%; d) the cloud point determined according to method AFNOR T 73 403, method B, is less than 30; and because polyisocyanate and polyether polyol are used in amounts such that the NCO/OH ratio of the number of isocyanate groups to the number of hydroxyl groups is at least equal to 1.
