Abstract
A wire or similar elongated element of metallic material is advanced between at least one pressure roller and at least one counter-roller and is engaged with the pressure roller under pressure to be rollingly deformed the pressure roller may be profiled to form ribs, grooves or the like on the wire. The pressure acting from the wire on the roller frequently reaches such a force that it tends to destroy the pressure roller, and in accordance with the invention a counter-force is exerted upon the roller, to compensate for the force acting on the same from the wire so as to prevent its destruction.
