Abstract
Procedure for treating residual water of the type obtained in the washing operation of the preparation of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol by oxidation of cyclohexane with oxygen, characterized in that the pH of the residual water is adjusted to a value of 4 or less; wherein (possibly after the layers have been separated into an aqueous layer and an organic layer) at least the aqueous layer is extracted with an organic solvent, which solvent is an extraction agent for substantially all organic constituents of the aqueous layer; and forms an azeotrope with water and/or has a higher boiling point than that of water; in which the water evaporates from the reunited extract with the organic layer that may have been separated; and in which, possibly after cooling, the formed precipitate is separated by filtration from the extract.
