Abstract
Improvements in a method for making an article selectively capable of reducing thereon a precious metal from a precious metal salt, comprising the steps of coating the article with a solution comprising a positive photopromotor and selectively exposing portions of the coated article to a radiation source for producing a pattern capable of reducing the precious metal from the precious metal salt, characterized by improving the sensitivity of the positive photopromotor to a radiation source having a wavelength of at least 03,000 Å, by combining said photopromotor with a sensitizing agent, said photopromotor has a positive photopromotor medium selected from the group comprising: (1) Sn ions, Ti ions, Pb ions and mixtures thereof, (2) hydrous oxide particles. Insoluble colloidal tin, insoluble colloidal titanium hydrated oxide particles, hydrous oxide particles or insoluble colloidal lead and mixtures thereof, said particles have dimensions ranging from 10 to 10,000 Å (3) the positive photopromotor medium of (1) combined with colloidal hydrous oxide particles of elements selected from Cr, Fe, Zn, Al, and Si, said particles having dimensions ranging from 10 to 10,000 å and (4) mixtures of (1), (2) and (3) and said sensitizing agent having a sensitizing means capable of (a) absorbing radiation having a wavelength of at least 03,000 Å, (b) being associated with the positive photopromotor and (c) sensitize the photopromotor to said wavelength radiation of at least 03,000 Å.
