Abstract

Method of reforming hydrocarbons having on average two or more carbon atoms per molecule, in at least two stages, characterized by the steps of: adiabatically carrying out the reform reaction with steam of hydrocarbons having an average molecular weight relatively small, from among said hydrocarbons in the reaction zone of the first stage, after mixing with 1.0 to 5.0 moles of water vapor per carbon atom of said hydrocarbons having a relatively small average molecular weight, by use of a nickel-containing catalyst, at a temperature comprised between 350 and 550ºC; and subsequently adiabatically carry out the reforming reaction with steam of a mixture consisting of the reaction product gas leaving the reaction zone of the first stage, and hydrocarbons having a relatively large average molecular weight, from among the hydrocarbons before defined, together with water vapor, whose ratio with respect to said hydrocarbons that have a higher average molecular weight is less than the ratio between water vapor and the hydrocarbon used in the first reaction zone, by use of a nickel-containing catalyst, at a temperature between 500 and 550ºC, in the reaction zone of at least one other stage.
