Abstract
A process for producing silver catalysts comprising silver on a porous refractory support and also containing one or more alkali compounds, characterized in that a solid porous refractory support is contacted with a liquid phase containing a quantity of silver, either as a silver compound dissolved in the liquid phase, either as a suspension of silver compound particles, in an amount sufficient to deposit 1.5 to 20% by weight of silver on the surface of the support, and which also contains a quantity of dissolved salts of potassium, rubidium and/or cesium sufficient to deposit 0.00035 to 0.0030 gram equivalents by weight of these alkali metals per kilogram of the total catalyst as salts on the surface of the support, thus simultaneously depositing these amounts of compounds of silver and alkali metal salts on the support, and why the silver salt is then reduced to metallic silver.
