Abstract
Production method of stainless steel in a basic oxygen furnace, whose steel is endowed with a carbon content of less than 0.03%, comprising the operations of loading molten ferrous metal and cold materials containing chromium into a container, constituting this material cold at least 10% by weight of the total charge and containing the mixture of molten materials; and cold at least 3.5% by weight of carbon; above blowing essentially pure oxygen onto the surface of the molten ferrous metal through a nozzle located above said surface, until at least 80% of the total oxygen required for refining has been blown on such surface of the bath; and then blow a mixture of oxygen and a non-oxidizing gas onto the surface of the molten metal through said nozzle, until its carbon content has been reduced to less than 0.03%.
