Abstract
A procedure for preparing 2-hydro-xiniethyl-3-phenyl-4 (3H) -quinazolinone of the following formula I: **(See formula)** or its acid addition salts, characterized in that: a) a compound of the following formula II: **(See formula)** in which it represents a halogen atom, or an acetoxy, benzoyloxy or benzyloxy group, it is reacted with aniline in the presence of a condensing agent, and then the product obtained from **(See formula)** in which R1 has the same meaning as in formula II, it is hydrolyzed or hydrogenated in a known way, or b) a compound of the following formula IV: **(See formula)** in which R2 represents a halogen atom, or a hydroxy, acetoxy, benzoyloxy or benzyloxy group, is treated with a condensation agent, after which, when R2 is not a hydroxy group, the product obtained of formula V: **(See formula)** in which R2 has the same meaning as in formula IV, is hydrolyzed or hydrogenated in a known way, or c) 2-carboxyaldehyde-3-phenyl-4 (3H) -quinazolinone is reduced with a metal borohydride alkaline, aluminum isopropoxide, or formaldehyde.
