Abstract
A disposable or non-reusable circuit breaker device, comprising relatively displaceable contact means and actuating mechanism therefor, a trip device comprising a bimetal trip element having a fixedly mounted end and which heats in response to the circuit current, the tripping device also comprising a retention member that releasably restricts the actuating mechanism and responds to the movement of the bimetal tripping element, the bimetal tripping element bending in response to a predetermined overcurrent limit for actuating the retention member and causing the retention member to release the actuating mechanism, the bimetal tripping element being deformable by thermal stress when subjected to a current greater than the predetermined overcurrent limit, a fuse element connected in series with the normal current path and which is destructible in response to a current greater than said predetermined overcurrent limit, and a housing enclosing the foregoing portions and comprising separable housing members and destructible fastening means for holding the housing members together.
