Abstract
A procedure for preparing derivatives of quinoxalin-2-carboxamide 1,4-dioxide bearing a cyano group of the formula: ** (See formula) ** and the acid addition salts thereof; wherein the cyano substituent is at the 6-position or at the 7-position and R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, alkyl having one to four carbon atoms, 2-hydroxyethyl, 3-hydroxypropyl, CH2CH2NR3R4 or CH2CH2CH2NB3R4; wherein R3 and R4 are each alkyl having one to three carbon atoms; characterized by reacting a compound of the formula ** (See formula) ** with a compound of the formula ** (See formula) ** where M is (see formula), where R1 and R2 are as defined above, O-OR5 is the residue of an ester or an enamine thereof, and when R5 is the residue of an ester, react the product obtained with an amine of the formula ** (See formula) ** at a later stage and, if desired, prepare the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
