Abstract

Continuous procedure for pollution control in fertilizer manufacturing, comprising: passing a first stream containing water vapor generated as a low-pressure by-product stream during fertilizer manufacturing in direct contact relationship with a second stream containing air and entrained fertilizer solids; feed the resulting current until it has direct contact; feed a third aqueous stream containing dilute concentrations of the fertilizer produced during manufacturing, and in the direct contact zone for condensation of a portion of the resulting stream, recirculate the condensed portion of the resulting stream in countercurrent contact with the first stream, the second and third streams in such a way that contaminant-free water from the third stream is evaporated and the entrained solids are removed from the second stream, so that substantially pure water and air can be removed and a solution containing fertilizer which can be used in manufacturing.
