Abstract

A process for the production of solid ethylene polymers, having a density less than 0.941 and a melt index of more than 0.0 to at least about 2.0, under relatively low pressure conditions, comprising copolymerizing ethylene with Sufficient amounts of alpha-olefin monomer of 3 to 6 carbon atoms to provide the desired density in the copolymer product, in a fluidized bed process, at a temperature of about 30 to 105ºC, under a pressure of less than about 70 kg/cm2 and under a minimum gas mass flow rate of approximately 1.5 to 10, contacting the monomers with fluidized particles of a supported catalyst, in which said particles have an average diameter of approximately 50 to 200 microns, having been activated in air or oxygen at a temperature of approximately 300 to 900ºC said catalyst, and comprising, relative to the total weight of the support and d the catalyst, about 0.05 to 3.0 weight percent chromium, about 1.5 to 9.0 weight percent titanium, and 0.0 to about 2.5 weight percent fluorine, said chromium and said titanium being in the form of oxides after said activation.
