Abstract

The fastening element, e.g. a screw or a nut, has a plurality of rounded-off elevations on the surface which is directed towards the workpiece on which the fastening element acts. These elevations are formed as projecting ribs (2) which have at least one rounded-off portion which, when turning the fastening element relative to the workpiece, slide over the surface of the workpiece in the manner of rolling elements. In this arrangement, ribs hardly penetrate into the material of the workpiece at all. Rather, an essentially uniform fastening of the entire bearing surface of the workpiece beneath the head of the fastening element is effected. At the same time, a locking action with respect to unintentional loosening of the fastening element is achieved because the elastic/plastic deformations, which arise during tightening, of the material of the workpiece result, once the tightening procedure has been completed, in bulges between the rib elevations, which provide sufficient resistance against automatic loosening.
