Abstract

The disc (2) of a gate valve is provided with a collar (19) at its junction with the valve spindle (4). The valve spindle (4) is provided with a gland (11) in the housing (10) projecting from the valve body (3). When the valve is fully open the conical boss (18) fits in the matching recess (17) and forms an additional spindle seal. The conical boss (18) is attached by the flexible bellows (24) to the collar (19). A stack of belleville washers (21) inside the bellows (24) exerts a force on the conical boss (18) to ensure a perfect spindle seal when the valve is in the fully open position.
