Abstract

An improved process for polymerizing ethylene alone or with one or more alpha-olefins, with a catalyst composition comprising a silica support, wherein the improvement comprises employing as said catalyst composition one comprising a transition metal compound deposited on a silica support which has been dried at a temperature of about 100 to 300ºC and treated, in the presence of a base, with a hydrosilane compound which is silane or a compound having the structure: rn - (- si -) - h4-n wherein r is a hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 1 to 3 inclusive.
