Abstract

Material such as coke is charged, handled and discharged during calcining operations by a rotary hearth furnace. The material is charged to the hearth halfway between the centre and the periphery. Ploughshares are arranged above the hearth in such a way that a side stream is moved towards the periphery and another side stream towards the centre. This system can operate at slow speeds so that breakages and dust production are reduced to a min. Also the mechanical wear of the equipment is reduced.
